Things to Consider before you upgrade to macOS Mojave 10.14

With the release of macOS 10.14 this week a lot of Apple Macintosh computer users are thinking about and will be upgrading their MacBooks/iMacs to the latest macOS.

There are some things to consider before you do. Here is a list of things:

Can your Mac even support the new macOS? If you see your unit on the list below, then your unit will support 10.14

  • MacBook (Early 2015 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (Mid 2012 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 or newer)
  • Mac mini (Late 2012 or newer)
  • iMac (Late 2012 or newer)
  • iMac Pro (2017)
  • Mac Pro (Late 2013, plus mid-2010 and mid-2012 models with recommended Metal-capable GPU

Do you have the General requirements to upgrade:

  • OS X 10.8 or later
  • 2GB of memory
  • 12.5GB of available storage (OS X El Capitan 10.11.5 or later)*

If you meet the hardware requirements but are not running osx 10.11.5 or higher, check out the link: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206886

Do you have a backup of your system?

You should always have a backup anyway, but this is very important if you run into problems during the upgrade. I would recommend having a time machine backup of your system at all times, you never know when an accident will happen. To check this is easy, Click on the Apple on the top left of your desktop -> Click System Preferences -> Click Time Machine. You should be able to see when your last backup has happened.

Does your system have any software that is not compatible with macOS 10.14?

This is very important for MicroSoft Office users running Office 2011. Check out the MS link for this:

One Last Thing:If you have all this or just feel like taking the leap to 10.14, one of the last things to consider is downtime. I don’t just mean downtime during the upgrade process, but downtime is something bad happens. Will it cost you Money? Do you have deadlines that need to be met? Do you have a backup plan if you need help to get the unit up and running again.

When it comes to Mac, we got your back.
